Atelier West is a private artist-run printshop located in Deer Lake, on the West Coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. The studio/printshop has been in existence for 17 years, and serves both as a production facility for artist Audrey Feltham, and as a teaching location.

Mixed Media Print
This is a mixed media print using etching, relief, collograph and gum arabic transfer. Ancient societies were very attuned to the cyclical nature of life. Despite the fact that they had little scientific proof, they knew that procreation was the only method of ensuring that societal beliefs and practises would survive. They celebrated the female because it was obvious that she was the instrument of procreation. The bird goddess was one of the most important deities of the ancient world. She was the harbinger of spring, the protector of young, and the carrion bird of death, stripping away the flesh from the body which was no longer needed, and exposing clean, white bone. The image on the left hand side of the print is a small etching celebrating the bird goddess. The larger image on the right hand side is a relief print of a mother, baby and sibling. The two images create a dialogue which speak of procreation and the hope it gives to a troubled world.
